what we ate in march 2020



fried ipoh kuay teow with leftover thai garlic coriander chilli sauce
and lao gan ma chilli crisps with spicy broadbean paste or dou ban jiang
13-14 march 2020

Ribeye Steak! $35/kg
each piece is around 155g, costing around $5.50 per piece



seasoned with salt & black pepper


wok fry on both sides on big fire
then add some butter just before taking them out of the wok
rest the beef for about 15-30min - it's a WOW!!

Ribeye Steak Thai Salad

1. steak (fry at room temp)
- seasoned with salt, black pepper, garlic oil, light soya
- pan fry
- rest cooked beef before slicing

2. thai dressing
- sliced red onions
- coriander
- lime juice
- fish sauce
- sugar - pinch
- light soya sauce
- option - chillis or chilli flakes

3. add tung hoon (boil to soften)

making tom yum soup with tung hoon, chicken, sotong balls, and mushrooms

Tom Yum Soup
- galangal or blue ginger
- lemongrass
- kaffir lime leaves
- onions
- chillis
- lime juice
- fish sauce
- thai palm sugar
- coriander - roots and leaves/stems
- season with salt, soya sauce & black pepper
- red chilli tom yum paste - holly farm brand
Tom Yum fresh ingredients - galangal, onions, kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, palm sugar, coriander roots, chillis
other ingredients not in pic - lime juice, coriander, fish sauce, light soya sauce, black pepper, tom yum chilli paste

sweet & sour pork (sauce separate LOL)
Sweet & Sour Pork

1. Pork pieces (suitable for sweet & sour pork)

Season pork with the following:
- chicken rice cooked ginger paste, 1 tbsp
- 1 egg
- salt, white pepper, light soya sauce
- sesame oil
- corn starch
- potato starch
- rice flour
- plain flour
- baking powder

2. Sweet & Sour Sauce
- tomato ketchup
- garlic chilli sauce
- salt
- sugar
- rice vinegar
- sesame oil
- water
- corn starch slurry

Sweet & Sour Pork - Method:
- Fry pork in oil, make sure you add them piece by piece so that they don't stick together.
- Fry onions and add sauce mix - cook to desired sauce thickness
- Coat fried pork with sauce or serve as a side gravy.

jannah and i made some pork dumplings!!
wow, it tastes like those sold out there!!

tom yum soup with sotong and tung hoon!!

they are removed from the soup and seasoned with
soya sauce, fried garlic oil, chinese wine, sugar, sliced onions and lime juice
so fragrant and yummy!!

notice that ours doesn't have chillis (they don't like it spicy)
and no corriander (yes, they don't like corriander uggh)
