What we ate in June.
Covid19 Lockdown over,
country slowly opening, in 3 phases.


- waffles!
- Irene's chiffon & durian cakes
- veggies - roasted, stir fried, korean style... 
soya bean sprouts, black & white fungus, sambal kangkong, 
spinach, archa, sambal goreng, cucumber salad with century egg
- mee suah soup
- steamboat
- chicken wings
- chicken curry (with recipe)
- prawns, potato cakes, fritters
- alow's macaroni chilli sauce
- salmon with rice
- pasta, spaghetti, fried kuay teow and other noodles, fried rice
- black pepper crab & food from newton hawker centre

Dry Mee Suah for breakfast. omg the house smells of the soya sauce seasoning and fresh cucumbers! LOVE that the fragrance stays in the air! soooo good!

ok. made the soya bean sprouts again. this time it's not lame or overcooked, so much better!
actually made fish ball soup with dodo fish balls and teochew bak yee (both dodo brand). put the soya bean in the soup but the soup tastes a bit bland until i added the remainder of the macaroni soup.

i can just eat soup and rice with sng mi chou (teochew garlic chilli vinegar sauce mix).

Chicken Curry for lunch!

lunch kept simple - prata with curry sauce







Chicken Curry

Curry Powder Mix
Alagapal Daging (Meat) Curry Powder x6 tbsp
House Brand Garam Masala x2-3 tbsp

Mixed Seeds / Dried Spices
Black mustard seeds, 
Fennel seeds, 
Cumin (jeera) seeds,  
Lentils or fish curry mix etc
Cardamons (green) x6-10 seeds
Cloves x5-6
Star Anise x3-4
Cinnamon stick x1
Optional - black pepper

Fresh Herbs
Curry Leaves x4-5 bunches -leaves removed from stalks
Limau Purut Leaves x10 leaves
Serai x1-2 - cut into 2-3 inch pieces
Coriander a few bunches

Fresh Aromatics
Onions x1-2 big - sliced
Green chillis - x4-5 - cut into 4 or 5 pieces
Garlic x1 - sliced/chopped
Ginger x5-6 slices
Tomatoes x3-5 - cubed

Seasoning
Yoghurt x1/2 to 1 cup
lime juice x2
salt, fish sauce, light soya sauce to taste

chicken wing drumlet, cooked in the abc soup
drenched in batter/flour and fried till crisp and golden brown


leftover tom yum fried rice which seem to taste better today

potato patties - used the boiled potatoes from the abc soup!
potatoes + eggs + rice flour + plain flour + seasoning + veggies

Dinner - tom yum fried rice
the pic may not look like much, but the taste was super!
we used leftover cooked lemongrass chicken (which was too salty) and it added to the flavours of tom yum! also added holly farm tom yum paste.

Tom Yum Paste Mix:
- tom yum red paste (holly farm)
- galangal, 
- serai, 
- limau purut, 
- chillipadi - more green than red (can mix with bigger & less spicy chillis)
- onion, garlic, 
- sugar, 
- fish sauce, 
- lime juice

you can fry the rice with any ingredient. just have eggs and a mixture of your fav or leftover meats, seafood, veggies and even toufu. if you like tom yum and fried rice, this won't go wrong Lol

top with crispy fried shallots, cut fresh chillipadi and fresh lime!

Soup & Rice





fresh chilli sauce mix (teochew sng mi chou)
1. pound red chillis and fresh garlic into a paste, not too fine
2. add rice vinegar and light soya sauce
3. if cooking this mix, 
cook the chilli paste (without garlic paste) with a little water first, 
then turn off fire, add the raw garlic, rice vinegar and light soya into the cooked chilli sauce

macaroni chilli mix (alow's recipe)
1. grind/pound red chillis into a paste, not too fine
2. cook the chilli paste with a little water 
or chicken stock or chicken skin/fat, 
then add lime juice & light soya sauce to taste
