So this is what we ate in the month of Jan 2020...

eaten with tomato ketchup and chilli sauce.
a fav from sec school days when i bought this sandwich at the bakery for $2.50
(quite ex then as u can get chicken rice for $1.50!)

Salad & simple Tom Yum Soup with rice

chicken feet soup with peanuts and lotus root. soooooooo yummy!!
also a good way to give Christen a boost Lol
Lotus Root & Peanut Soup
- lotus root
- raw peanuts - skin removed
- chicken feet/claw 500g or 1kg
- 1 garlic
- 3 red shallots
- 10-12 small red dates
- wolfberries
- tang gui - 1 small slice
dump all ingredients in the crockpot/slow cooker for 2-3 hours, high heat
season with salt, white peppercorns (crushed) & a dash of superior soya sauce

tea time at yoshinoya. tried their new dishes - japanese curry and beef yakiniku.
i still prefer their humble beef bowl Lol

daddy wanted beef golden coin. so we bought $20 worth of that (beef golden coin about 1.2kg) and cooked it in a crockpot with 12 tiny shallots, 1 garlic, tang gui x2 tiny pieces, cordon bleu brandy 3-4 tbsp, salt, crushed white & black peppercorns, japanese fragrant soy sauce x3-4 tbsp, rock sugar.
the pot was on from 12+pm. but then i dozed off in the afternoon and forgot about my beef till around 5.45pm. geez. it was so soft then that it crumbled as if it was canned corned beef hahaha.
i made 3 sauces to go with the beef and kuey teow noodles.

soya sauce mix (same mix for HK-style steamed fish)
superior light soya sauce
chinese shaoxing wine
fried garlic and garlic oil
sugar

thai style dip (same mix for Thai steam fish with garlic, chilli, lime)

corriander
green chilli

china-style chilli dip (also used to coat dumplings & scallion noodles)

- chopped garlic & ginger
- Dried Chinese Mushrooms
- Fa Choy
- Straw Mushrooms
- Sauce Mix
- Optional: Abalone, Dried Oysters
Sauce Mix
- oyster sauce
- light soya sauce
- shaoxing wine
- pinch of salt & sugar
- white pepper
- fried garlic & garlic flavoured oil
- sesame oil
- stock (from boiling chicken feet or lightly flavoured stock from veg or seafood or meat)

what can i say, everyone was just going wow wow wow... the beef was soooooo amazing! and the soup is soooooo savoury and simple in taste. altho i find it a little oily and sweet... but it's for pleasurable indulgence - only for today!!

mushrooms with garlic, chilli and a scoop of butter seasoned with japanese soy sauce and mirin this goes very well with pasta oglio olio or salad or toast with fried eggs. |
